McConnell Properties commenced operations in 1970 as B & G McConnell Welding Works from rented premises in Byron Street, Bulimba.

Specialising in fabricated aluminium and stainless steel products mainly for the marine industry, business growth required a move to larger premises in 1980.

It was from these premises that an expansion into other industries took place and the company became a major manufacturer of components for the transport industry as well as the marine industry. This included truck components, security products, sign and signpost equipment, and sheetmetal products. B&G McConnell Welding Works was a major supplier to Mack Trucks Australia Pty Ltd when over 900 specialised vehicles were built from 1982 for the Australian Army.

Further expansion saw a move to new purchased premises at Wakerley in July 1990. These premises have since been extended and modified in line with business plans to maintain flexibility for customers.
